About Trail Trompers

Thank you so much for visiting Trail Trompers! I’m Michelle, the owner and author of this site. At Trail Trompers we believe that children can experience the wonders of nature for themselves through exploring, hiking, and other outdoor adventures. We believe that modern children are missing out on a huge part of childhood when they are deprived of Vitamin N (nature) and that the outdoors is the best place to learn, grow, and bond.

Our Story

My husband and I both grew up enjoying time outside camping, hiking, and fishing. Living in Colorado gave us many opportunities to take weekend and day trips into the mountains, but eventually we decided that wasn’t enough. After years of preparation, including extra jobs and remodeling our home, we were ready.

We sold our house, moved into an RV with our 8 children, and began the adventure of a lifetime. Over the next three years we would travel through the United States, exploring, hiking, playing outside, and seeing everything we could of this beautiful land.

We visited the ocean from every possible state (except Alaska and Hawaii…. maybe someday we’ll make it there, too!) The children earned over 50 Junior Ranger badges at national parks, monuments, and other sites. We hiked in mountains, on beaches, and through the desert. We climbed rocks, kayaked with stingrays, explored caves. We even went snorkeling on Christmas Eve!

Throughout this experience, we learned a lot about getting kids outside, how to teach them about the wonders of nature, and how to make the experience a positive one (most of the time!) As I saw the benefits in my family, I became a passionate supporter of the effort to get more kids outside, more often, and in better ways.

We hope that our site encourages you in your quest to spend more time in nature with your children and that your family will learn to love the trees, wildlife, and scenery of the natural world as ours has.
